Tyler was born in Ottawa, IL and moved to the southern Illinois area when he was 3 years old. He was raised in Troy and Edwardsville, IL. He grew up playing for the Granite City Steelers, Twin Bridges Lightning and the St.Louis AAA Junior Blues before heading off for his junior hockey career.

His junior hockey career took him from his hometown of St. Louis to Alaska, Omaha and then back to finish his career. After three years of the junior hockey Tyler was fortunate enough to land a Division 1 scholarship to the University of Minnesota State Mankato. He earned a degree in Business Marketing and a minor in Business Administration while maintaining a 3.5GPA.

After college, he began his pro career in Boise, Idaho in the East Coast Hockey League. He is now in his 5th year of pro hockey playing with the Kansas City Mavericks, an affiliate of the Calgary Flames . He plans to continue to play the game he loves until his body doesn't allow him to. He has been coaching and teaching for the past 10+ years and will continue to do so for a long time.
